All SimplyClean products are scented using only Australian pure essential oils as it’s the healthiest option for human health and the environment. Artificial fragrances contain sensitising chemicals and can cause skin irritations and allergies to flare.

Lemon myrtle has an enormous range of benefits. We use lemon myrtle in SimplyClean because it smells beautiful, is a truly Australian bush scent and has significant antibacterial and anti-fungal properties; 30% higher than tea-tree oil!

Any cleaning or personal care product that is at risk of being contaminated with bacteria, or fungus needs a preservative to prevent growth of these nasties in the product. Generally, this means any liquid product stored near water in the kitchen or bathroom would need a preservative.

Our Lemon Myrtle Hand Wash is self-preserving because it contains an antibacterial agent but some of our other products need the protection of a preservative. (Imagine fungus silently growing in your shampoo and you’ll understand what we mean - yuk!).

We use a combination of organic preservatives - phenoxyethanol and food grade sorbic acid. There is a more natural preservative available, but it is a formaldehyde donor (and formaldehyde is a cancer-causer) and so we do not use this in SimplyClean.

Our mantra is no unnecessary ingredients in SimplyClean, so wherever we use colour there’s a reason. Almost all SimplyClean products are colour free.

Our toilet cleaner has colour to help you see where you’ve squirted in the toilet bowl and to avoid overuse and wastage.

You probably wouldn’t realise that our lemon myrtle essential oil changes colour with the seasons, ranging from pale hint of lemon through to deep golden. It can also mature in the bottle. Adding a tiny amount of colour smooths out the colour variation, which would otherwise cause alarm with customers wondering if the product is the same as last time. Is it “as strong?” or has it “gone off?”

Our colours are food safe but not natural. In 2019 we tested natural colours in our products but, sadly, the tests didn’t give the result we’d hoped for. The natural colours gave an unpalatable muddy grey green colour that most people would find unattractive or worrying in a cleaning product. So, for now, it’s back to the drawing board.

Hydrogen peroxide is the superfood of the cleaning world. The formula is H2O2, and it utilises the power of its “O’ – oxygen to do its job. When in contact with any kind of protein-based soil e.g. blood, urine, food stains, mould, viruses and bacteria, the oxygen penetrates the cell of the contaminant and burns it from the inside out. This is known as ‘oxidising’. Once the job is done, the hydrogen peroxide has biodegraded to just water and oxygen.

We looked seriously at optical brightener (aka colour protector) when we developed the SimplyClean laundry powders and decided it is a necessary ingredient. Reasons being, of the competitor powders and liquids we tested that had no optical brightener, they caused whites and brights to ‘grey’ in just one or two washes, making the clothes look old, drab and (to some people) unwearable. This effect was even more prevalent in hard water.

Fortunately, newer versions of OB are much healthier than the old. We have chosen an optical brightener that is biodegradable, does not accumulate and persist, is not toxic, nor sensitising or allergenic, nor does it have any issue with reproduction, mutagenicity or carcinogenicity. It would be irritating if put neat into the eye, but so would any brand of laundry powder or even soap. Our laundry powders contain such a tiny percentage, so nothing is a risk to humans or aquatic life.

The reason for the difference is that the lemon myrtle oil can change colour depending on the season when it was harvested, or as it matures. This colour difference doesn’t affect the lemon myrtle fragrance nor how well it works. This is one of the challenges of using this 100% pure, fresh and natural Australian oil and it's why we add a bit of green colour to these two products, to try to even out any change in colour.

Chlorine (bleach) fumes are irritating to the respiratory system; particularly for people with asthma and chronic fatigue, and are unpleasant for almost everyone. If you inhale the fumes, you may find your eyes and nose stings; you may cough or have a bit of light-headedness or develop a headache. Chlorine bleach must be handled carefully as when mixed with acidic chemicals it produces poisonous chlorine gas. Another concern is that chlorine bleach is corrosive to most metals and to grout, so will corrode tapware and the grout in the bathrooms.

SimplyClean products do not contain chlorine bleach.

Fillers are literally cheap ‘bulking’ agents used to make you think you have ‘more for your money’. They’re purely marketing-lead and have no cleaning properties. We don’t use fillers for many reasons, the main being they cause issues with human health. They’re small, gritty grains that get lodged into the weave of clothes. They don’t dissolve, so remain in your clothes and on your bedlinen, turning them into fine sandpaper. Needless to say, they’re very unkind to your skin and cause irritation. Fillers are likely contributors to the flaring up of sensitive skin and are irritants for skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
SimplyClean products do not contain fillers.

Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) are both surfactants and are cheap, great bubble makers, so are used by most cleaning and personal care product manufacturers to produce bubbly products, such as detergents and hand washes. Both are skin irritants and are known to seep through skin. Some SLES is contaminated during manufacture by 1.4 dioxane, which is a carcinogen and is impossible to routinely detect, so it’s safer to avoid altogether.
SimplyClean products do not contain SLES or SLS.

Cocodiethanolamide (CDE) is another surfactant commonly used in the manufacturing process of products such as body wash hand wash and detergent. It works as a thickener in liquid products. Whilst CDE is derived from coconuts, in an assessment by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) it has recently been listed as a chemical known to cause cancer.

SimplyClean products do not contain CDE.

Chloromethylisothiazolinone/methyisothiszolinone (CMIT/MIT) are widely used preservatives in many personal care products such as body washes and cleaning products. They are a known factor in the possible development of severe lung diseases in humans.   SimplyClean products do not contain CMIT/MIT.

Antibacterial means something that is actively working against bacteria. In short, they prevent the development of bacterial contamination.

The truth is, short of sterilisation (used in hospitals for instance), nothing is capable of killing every single form of bacteria and virus.  This is because not all germs are created equal – occasionally, one may have an extra cell wall or a coating, which it can use to armour itself against household cleaning products. When 99.9% of bacteria have been killed this represents the acceptable level for safe food and household hygiene.

What does toxin free or non-toxic mean? – or toxic chemicals – are poisons that are harmful to human and animal health.  So a product that is toxin free or non-toxic means the product does not contain any ingredient at any level that causes toxic responses and poisoning.

A sensitiser is a chemical that causes a significant percentage of people or animals to develop an unwanted reaction (rash, reddening, itchiness etc) after repeated exposure. Sensitiser free means there are no harmful ingredients at any level that would cause such a reaction.
SimplyClean is sensitiser free

Hydrogen peroxide is the superfood of the cleaning world. The formula is H2O2, and it utilises the power of its “O’ – oxygen to do its job. When in contact with any kind of protein-based soil e.g. blood, urine, food stains, mould, viruses and bacteria, the oxygen penetrates the cell of the contaminant and burns it from the inside out. This is known as ‘oxidising’. Once the job is done, the hydrogen peroxide has biodegraded to just water and oxygen.

Yes, all SimplyClean products are greywater safe. Greywater is wastewater from non-toilet plumbing such as hand basins, washing machines, showers and baths. Used water in your mop bucket counts as greywater too. When handled correctly, greywater can be safely reused for the garden.

All SimplyClean products are completely safe for pets as well as humans. Some people are concerned with using essential oils around pets, but this is all to do with dosage. The small amount of essential oil in our products is totally non-toxic. With dilutable products, once diluted the amounts are even smaller, so are perfectly fine to use around your fur babies.

Never. All our products are 100% palm oil free, vegan and Peta certified cruelty free.

Yes. We are PETA certified cruelty free.

Yes. Arguably, hydrogen peroxide kills mould better than chlorine-based mould killers, because it infiltrates mould, then scorches the cells from the inside, destroying them in the process. And because this demolition of the mould cells is ‘powered by oxygen’, it’s a 100% natural, toxic-free process.

Yes, it is safe for septics. In case you’re interested why: Simply No Mould is a spray product, and its active ingredient hydrogen peroxide breaks down very quickly to water and oxygen. What doesn’t get used up killing mould would rarely make it as far as the septic, as it would get to work on the various waste remnants in the pipework on the way. Should a spray bottle of Simply No Mould be tipped directly into a septic (which it never would of course), whilst the hydrogen peroxide would start killing some bacteria, in the process the resulting burst of oxygen would feed the septic’s oxygen-loving bacteria and help them to proliferate greatly. The dose of a spray bottle’s worth would probably do good, rather than harm.

In short, yes, all SimplyClean products are septic safe, however some need to be used thoughtfully. Septics contain good bacteria that we want to preserve. We recommend restraint with two germ-killing products – our Disinfectant Cleaner Concentrates (lemon myrtle and eucalyptus) and Eucalyptus Toilet Cleaner. Both can be used a couple of times a week, but too frequently will make your septic unhappy.

No sorry we don’t currently. Sadly, it isn’t cost effective for us to send samples out because of the cost of postage. With around 1000 stockists around Australia, including over 100 xero-waste stores, you will be able to buy small in a store local to you, and give us a try that way.

If you have softer natural stones, or cement surfaces such as sandstone, limestone and marble in your home you would have been advised to avoid acidic cleaners and citrus. This is because acids dissolve these materials over time. Assuming your tiles and benchtops are sealed (unusual if they aren’t but please check), any of our neutral or alkaline products are safe to use. Some people worry the lime, lemon myrtle or mandarin oils would be too acidic because they’re based on citrus fruits. This is untrue as these essential oils are made from peel or distilled from a leaf, so are not harmful.

This means you can confidently use our Lemon Myrtle or Lime Sprays, Lemon Myrtle or Eucalyptus Disinfectant Cleaners, Lemon Myrtle or Mandarin Dishwash Liquids and Lemon Myrtle Floor Cleaner on all these surfaces. We advise you avoid using HealthyClean Bathroom and Simply No Mould, as both rely on being slightly acidic to do their cleaning jobs well.

Each litre makes up to 40 litres of ready-to-use disinfectant cleaner. You can make it up in a spray bottle to use as a spray and wipe, or in a bowl or mop bucket for cleaning around the home.

Each litre makes up to 100 litres of ready to use floor cleaner. You can make it up in a spray bottle to use as a spot spray for spills, or in a mop bucket for whole floor cleaning.

Yes, absolutely. Our lemon Myrtle Floor Cleaner has a neutral pH and low foaming formula that makes it perfect for all floors but especially shiny floors - tiles, vinyl, painted concrete and sealed wooden and bamboo floorboards.

The neutral pH protects floor coatings and waxes. The low bubble formula means no bubble marks are left after mopping and you’re left with a streak-free finish.

e haven’t developed a pre-wash stain remover spray yet. Our Fragrance Free Laundry Stain Remover Powder can be used as a pre-wash soak or an in-wash boost to remove stains and it can be used for spot staining by mixing a small amount to a paste with hot water. If a spray is something you’d like, please contact us and let us know.

We’re often asked this question, as we have a wide range of surface sprays:

• Lemon Myrtle Spray & Wipe

• Lime Spray & Wipe

• HealthyClean Bathroom

• Lemon Myrtle or Eucalyptus Disinfectant Cleaner (when diluted into a spray bottle).

First, the similarities; all our toxin-free surface sprays are perfect for general purpose cleaning around the home. They all clean well AND kill germs. However, the formula for each product includes different ingredients, making them better for some things than others.

Best in Kitchen: If you want a spray that cuts through grease and grime, our Lime Spray & Wipe has grease cutters, so it’s perfect for cleaning stovetops and rangehoods, and cleaning up hardened food spills.

Best germ killer and overall: If you want a spray with a higher germ-killing action, our Lemon Myrtle Spray & Wipe, and Eucalyptus or Lemon Myrtle Disinfectant Cleaners are excellent choices.

Best in bathroom: HealthyClean Bathroom uses the natural cleaning power of hydrogen peroxide to sanitise surfaces. It has a slightly acidic formula to tackle scale and rust marks; however, this means it’s not suitable for soft natural stone surfaces such as limestone, sandstone or marble.

It’s safe to say they all clean surfaces beautifully, so it may come down to your personal choice of fragrance or, in the case of our HealthyClean range, no fragrance at all.

People comment that our hand wash doesn’t ‘lather up’ – that’s because we’ve carefully selected the cleansing ingredients that are compatible with the germ killing-ingredient, which all happen to be low-foaming. So, it’s more of a creamy, silky, hydrating formula. Bubbles aren’t needed for a hand wash to clean, so our Lemon Myrtle Hand Wash cleans your hands well.If you prefer a bubbly hand wash, try our Lime & Peppermint Hand Wash.

Our Lemon Myrtle Hand Soap cleanses hands really well, using a combination of plant-based surfactants. The antibacterial ingredient is there to give that little bit extra protection against bathroom germs, and to kill kitchen germs, when handling foods.

Tip: The Lemon Myrtle Hand Soap formula also works really well to wash away smells – just try it after peeling prawns and you’ll see!

Fabric softeners have their pros and cons and we’re yet to decide if a SimplyClean Fabric Softener will make it onto our development list. Although the lingering smell of lemon myrtle would be divine!

Fabric softeners have their benefit in producing softer and fluffier towels, bed sheets and clothes but this is done by leaving a film of fabric softener on the fabric fibres; similar to how a hair conditioner works.

This film affects absorbency (unhelpful, especially for towels) and we prefer our laundry products wash cleanly away, so the fabrics next to your skin contain nothing itchy or sensitising.

Healthy shampoos and conditioners are tricky. We have done some testing and haven’t been happy with the results. We are hoping to come back to this at some stage. Not all hope is lost.

At pH 5.5, our toxin-free hand washes and body washes are perfectly balanced for skin. However, the body washes and hand washes have very different ingredients. The Lemon Myrtle Hand Wash contains an active germ killer, so has other ingredients that combine well with that. The body washes can happily be used as a hand wash and the Lime & Peppermint Hand Wash as a body wash; however, we don’t recommend the Lemon Myrtle Hand Wash for use on the body because of the antibacterial ingredient, which is unnecessary for a body wash.

We take back all bulk 5lt/kg and 15lt/kg containers. We clean them, relabel, and reuse, refill & recap for resale.

It is only feasible for Northern Rivers locals to return to us because transporting empty containers is not very economical and uses many more precious resources than recycling.

They are all recyclable btw! If you live a distance away an alternative is for you to reuse & refill your single use containers or repurpose them.

Yes, all SimplyClean containers, bottles, caps and labels are recyclable. Over 85% of our bottles are also 100% reused plastic. Our spray triggers (and everyone else’s) are the only component that are currently not recyclable - unfortunately they have too many mixed materials to recycle. That means for all SimplyClean products besides spray triggers you can leave the label and cap on the bottles and put them into recycling.

Better yet, reuse them and refill from bulk. All our small bottles and containers are designed to be refilled again and again.

Short answer is because they would breakdown and leak. Due to SimplyClean products varying in pH levels and having minimum 2-year or 3-year shelf lives, this rules out biodegradable or compostable packs. We are on an ever-evolving journey to being as sustainable as possible. In 2021 we introduced our most popular powders in box refills. These powders account for almost 40% of our total production volume and use 90% less plastic than our pails. Later this year we will be launching more products in cartons and other exciting sustainable options.

All SimplyClean liquids come with a 2-year shelf life and powders have a 3-year shelf life. Actual shelf life is improved if you store your product well – out of direct sunlight and heat, and powders kept dry. This is especially important for our products that contain hydrogen peroxide - Simply No Mould and HealthyClean Bathroom - to maintain their effectiveness.

To keep products safe during transit and fill voids in our boxes we use 100% biodegradable, veg-based packaging peanuts made from corn starch. They’re dissolvable and compostable. To supplement the peanuts, we use shredded paper but not just any paper! We repurpose the backing paper that our product labels come on. In addition to this we also use tissue paper, corrugated cardboard, and wood wool, which are all recyclable.

We have over 1000 stockists around Australia, mainly on the east coast but slowly extending to SA and WA.
